It is most common for a close friend or family member to throw the baby shower party, but the traditional roots of a baby shower are that a friend other then a family member would throw the party.

However in today's modern world it is quite common that members of the family host the party. This makes it much easier on the mother to be as it is one less thing she needs to worry about.

Preparation - The Most Critical Steps

One of the biggest decisions that will need to be made is whether to hold the baby shower before the birth of the baby, or after the birth of the baby. Also the mother to be may want to wait until her baby is born and healthy before holding a baby shower.

This is also very common and something that needs to be considered. The baby shower is usually thrown at the hoster's house or at a local venue area.

Invitations - Who is going to come

Without invitations to your baby shower party, it is going to be a pretty quite party.

There are many different types of invitations that you can use for your baby shower party, but it is best to pick a style of invitation that matches that of the party.

It is best to have your invitations out at least 3 weeks prior to the party but preferably 6 weeks to ensure you give enough time for people to plan and attend.

Just recently I was invited to a baby shower party but due to not enough notice, we just happened to be moving houses on the same weekend so unfortunately couldn't attend. As you can see it is important to give enough notice.

Party Themes and Games - Spiderman or Barby?

Of course they are just two examples of themes but there are literally hundreds of themes you can choose from, and you don't even have to use a theme, but it can add extra excitement to the party.

There are many popular games that can be played at baby shower parties, some of the more common ones are when everyone writes down a prediction for the baby's future and places it in a hat, they are then pulled out one by one and read out aloud.

Also it is common for guests of a baby shower party to give items which are going to help the expecting mother with her first year of being a mother. Items such as baby blankets, baby toys, tedious the list goes on and on.
